The Complete Medea Comparison
Two Devices. Two Price Points. One Standard: Clinical-Grade Power.
Every LED brand claims "medical-grade." We publish our specs—then let you compare. Persephone and Athena are built on the same wavelength science. Only the coverage differs.

What “FDA 510(k) Cleared” Actually Means
Persephone is FDA-cleared under K250830. That means it’s been reviewed and cleared by the FDA as a medical-grade LED device—not a consumer toy.
“FDA Registered” means a company told the FDA their product exists. That’s it. No review. No clinical data required.
“FDA 510(k) Cleared” means the FDA reviewed the device and determined it is substantially equivalent to legally marketed predicate devices. Persephone holds clearance K250830.
Substantial equivalence is not the same as FDA approval (which requires premarket approval through clinical trials). It means the device is similar enough to existing cleared devices that additional trials aren’t required.
The Irradiance Gap
Irradiance measures how much light energy reaches your skin. It’s the single most important spec for an LED device, and most brands refuse to publish it.
Persephone: 30 mW/cm² — published, measured, and within the range used in phototherapy research. Athena: 70 mW/cm² — 2.3× the power. If a brand hides this number, there’s usually a reason.
Research on LED phototherapy typically studies irradiance between 20–100 mW/cm². Below that range, the light may not penetrate deeply enough to reach the target tissue. Both Persephone and Athena deliver output within this researched range.
